Happy SmartPhone Dance

We want to thank parents for purchasing and sending phones and accessories for your missionary.  The time between receiving the directive from the missionary department and our set up date was only a couple of weeks.  It was a step by step process including the missionaries rereading “Safeguards For Using Technology”, the missionaries taking the online course, agreeing to the safeguards for using their phones and then receiving and getting them operational with the apps added. A special thanks the Elder Mortensen and Elder Lambert who were called as our technology experts. They did the hands on set up for each missionary. Your quick action on purchasing and sending phones allowed this process to go smoothly.
We would ask that you admonish our missionary to be diligent in following the missionary departments safeguards and guidelines for the successful use of this additional tool we have been given.  It will never replace the Book of Mormon, our tool of conversion in this dispensation or what we learn and teach each day from Preach My Gospel as we bear our testimony face to face with those we talk to and teach.  That is what we focus on as missionaries.  Our phones will help us make better use of our time and be more effective in our many of our daily activities. 
The missionary department has also asked these amazing young people to be creative and find new ways to use technology to move the work forward.  I have no doubt we will see this in our mission and throughout the world.  It is an exciting era of missionary work as the Lord is hastening the work in its time. (D&C 88:73)

Giving missionaries smart phones comes with a great responsibility to use them wisely. Making righteous choices was presented in training to the missionaries.


Elder Dalley was very attentive during the training. I saw him taking multiple notes. Sincerity and a desire for righteousness was the theme of the training - making good choices.
 



 President Rasmussen, the father of the missionaries in the Federal Way Mission, gave a heartwarming message to his missionaries regarding the morality and the temptations of the device. He lead a discussion regarding having a plan to avoid the vunerability to use the smart phones in unrighteous and disobedient ways.


 There was a time for presenting and a time to listen. President and Sr. Rasmussen listing to the beautiful music presented by Elder Thibaudeau and Sr. Jay at the presentation.

                
               
The mission loves our talented missionaries. Music is often presented by missionaries as they participate in various activities and conferences. Music is a focus and the missionaries get opportunities at devotionals and conferences to participate in a manner that showcases their talents.



The training environment provided training videos from general authorities from Salt Lake City and the council of the 12.



There is always room for fun in all of our activities. Elder Chesley caught Sr. Ford-Trudo taking pictures and decided to present  a smug face. He was not surprised when I took this picture.

Phone audits

In order to assure that each missionary has not been tempted to step into an area of vunerability, each missionary companionship will audit each other's phone use on a weekly basis. They have restrictions about what they can access and what they cannot. Phone audits are part of their plan to stay on a righteous path.

Missionary training includes self assessment, implementation of a plan and then a reassessment of how the plan is working. Then revision of the plan if needed. That is what each missionary has been asked to do in order to assure righteous use of this electronic device.

 The Relief Society Sisters make sure there is plenty of food. IF there are left overs, they are sent home with the missionaries. Sr. Rasmussen arranges all of this - She is a very busy missionary.

Service!
Part of every missionary's  responsibility is service to others. Sometimes hard work is required as the tasks can be difficult. It takes all kinds of "helping others" to be a disciple of Christ.

 This is a beautiful picture of innocence. As children of our father in heaven we all come to earth in a state of innocence. We have to work hard to stay that way so that we may make our way back to him.

April 2018 Time flies when you are having fun!  We are approaching our two year mark on July 1 st and what a mark it is turning out to be.  On that day the Washington Federal Way Mission will be eliminated.  Of our nine zones, three will go to the Tacoma mission and the remaining six will join with five from Seattle to become the new Seattle mission.  President Rasmussen will preside over the Seattle Mission for our last year of service here.  We have known of these changes since January but now it is becoming a reality.  It is going to be very difficult to part with about 40 of our missionaries going to President and Sister Leishman in Tacoma.  We have 128 missionaries currently and in Seattle we will have about 180.  It will be a blessing for us to associate and learn from the wonderful elders and sisters now serving with President and Sister Schofield.  The last week of June will be zone conference wi...

 Message from the Presidency Federal Way Washington Mission Last Blog for this mission The last transfer meeting of the Washington Federal Way’s Mission was Friday, May 25th. Where each missionary will be as the mission divides is now in the history book. (We have a wonderful history book. If you come and visit us ask us and you can see it.). Transfer meetings are something I always look forward to because they always strengthen my testimony of revelation received by President Rasmussen for each missionary individually and the mission as a whole. It is a wonderful thing to behold. President Rasmussen spends the week preparing for the Friday meeting. He carefully reads each missionaries letter, looks at the history of where they have served in the mission and prays to know God’s will for them. Federal Way Washington LDS Mission

President and Sr. Rasmussen I hope you are all having a beautiful fall like we are here in Washington.  It get into the low 70’s in the day and the leaves are starting to change.  When you have as many trees as we do, it still stays very green all winter with all the pine trees even after the leaves have dropped.                  The work is going really well.  We have another transfer next week with 11 returning home on Monday and 25 new missionaries arriving on Tuesday.  We may get an additional 2 visa waiters who will be with us until their visas arrive. A mission is truly a revolving door of almost constant change.   We agonize over losing our experienced missionaries who have grown and become such great teachers and leaders.  But when we meet the new group at the airport we see that that Lord blesses the Washington Federal Way Mission....
